The PTA is a committee composed of Parents and Teachers of PS/IS 48. The “PTA” stands for Parent-Teacher Association and exists to assist & support the school with fundraising, plan social events for the students, incorporate parental input, & a means to increase communication. Every parent and staff member is an automatic member of the PTA. The amount of time that you give is completely voluntary.
Joining the PTA is a great way to become more active in your child’s education. It has been stated that children, whose parents assume an active role in their education, become more successful in school. The PTA’s main focus is to raise money to assist the school with programs and events for the students, and to provide viewpoints to support the school environment. Some of our functions include organizing and promoting school-wide fundraisers to help financially support our schools needs, planning social events and celebrations for the entire school community and bringing together parents and educators to discuss how they can work together to continually improve our school.
The elected parent members (Officers) are to serve on the Executive Board for 1 year; attendance at the monthly PTA meetings and Executive Board meetings is also required. We hope some of you will give it a try!

The PTA has an open door policy, so please feel free to come and visit and speak with someone on getting involved in upcoming events. Parents are always welcome to come in anytime to speak to or help the Executive Board Members. There is always something going on and we are very appreciative of any assistance. We can also schedule a meeting at a time that is convenient for you.

Box Tops For Education: Please send in all Box Tops! Every box top is worth 10 cents. What a wonderful way to raise funds for the school and the children can help too!
Stop & Shop: Use your Stop & Shop card & link it to PS 48 to raise funds every time you shop! Simply link your card by going to their “Tools for Schools” page on their website & enter our school’s ID # 15728 & a percentage of your total will be donated back to PS 48!
Ink Cartridge Collection: We are still collecting old ink cartridges (no large cartridges please) that can be submitted for additional funding for the school.

Each month, we conduct monthly PTA meetings. These meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Wednesday of each month, at 7:30 p.m. This is a great way to get involved & be kept up to date on school information.
Our Principal, Ms. O’Donnell & Parent Coordinator, Ms. Terry Guthrie, will be attending every PTA meeting & present a report on upcoming events in the school. During the meeting, “Student of the Month” awards are distributed.
We are happy to announce that once again, Applebee's will be providing free kid meals & Panera Breads will give a free cookie certificate to all of the Students of the Month. Please extend your gratitude to these establishments the next time that you are there. We hope to see you all at the PTA Meetings!
Each month we have a Parent Meeting during the morning. These meeting will take place at 8:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. If you miss a PTA meeting & would like to catch up, you may attend this meeting – all are welcome.
We request that all Class Parents & Committee Members also attend these monthly meetings. A great way to get involved is to become a class parent in your child’s class. Check with your child’s teacher to see if your class has a class parent, many teachers will allow more than one class parent. The class parent assists the teacher with parties & special activities for the class.
